Replicators from series «Star gate» — already practically reality

At a look on the trekhlapy robot created by engineers of Oslo University, the race of paukoobrazny cars of "Replicators" from a science-fiction TV series «A star gate is remembered: SG-1» which are capable not only самовоспроизводиться but also to adapt for conditions of environment and to create threat for different forms of life in the Universe.

Specialists of Oslo University in Norway created the similar robot. The car on video represents the third generation of the robots below, capable to analyze environment and to adapt for it. The robot was created by means of the computer program on design of robots within certain parameters. For example, if to the program to set the task to design the small robot, capable to move with a certain speed and to climb up boulders, she will offer some ready options of design. Comparison will show, what of the offered options most of all corresponds to requirements of scientists. The most suitable option will be printed by means of the 3D-printer and will continue testing in the environment simulating real conditions of its operation, with a view of self-improvement. If the robot receives damages or will define need of replacement of any part, he will unpack a new detail or will find a way to do without it.

In the future robots should be able to solve problems in deep mines on far-out planets, in zones of radioactive pollution, in dangerous opolznevy zones and on a seabed near Antarctic. In such extreme conditions any person cannot work. All should be automated. Imagine that the robot approaches to ruins of a nuclear power plant. It finds a ladder. Photographs it, then analyzes a picture. Hands of one of robots are supplied with the printer. It prints the new robot or a new detail for already existing car which will allow it to use ladder steps, – scientists explain.

Scientists, however, still should solve mass of questions before the soft robots capable to self-reproduction, become commercially available.
