The defensive agency DARPA finished tests of being self-directed bullets which became more exact at defeat of the purposes. Now accuracy of firing does not depend on skill of the shooter as it was earlier. The new shell is effective even in hands of the person, untrained to shoot from a sniper rifle.
The program name on creation of a being self-directed bullet – Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance (EXACTO) – speaks for itself. The shell hits the target with the limiting set accuracy, changing the trajectory in flight.
DARPA mentions a control system of air start, food elements, system of optical prompting and sensors, but on the site shows only the computer image of a shell of the fiftieth calibre.
In July of last year the agency published video of the first successful tests of a being self-directed bullet. One of these days DARPA showed results of new dough. On video below the red line designated an initial trajectory of a bullet, by the green line – the modified trajectory at the moment of flight.
Apparently, old soldier’s expression «a bullet – the silly woman» (means that it flies where will wish) here is inapplicable.
The head of the DARPA program Jerome Dunn (Jerome Dunn) reported that the last tests of EXACTO showed that impossible earlier continuous prompting of a small-caliber shell on the purpose became today possible.
Demonstrative firing from a standard rifle showed that EXACTO is capable to strike the moving and escaping purposes with improbable accuracy that cannot be reached firing by usual turn. Combination of EXACTO and calibre 0,50 is the serious break opening doors in creation of operated shells of any calibre, – Dunn declared.
It is obvious that being self-directed bullets will cost expensive. Another is important: EXACTO allows snipers to strike the purposes quicker and with bigger accuracy. Any missed the mark shot threatens safety of military groups, points to their presence at the region and opens positions of the sniper.
