Startup company showed new equipment of the 3D-press, which in 25-100 times quicker than usual technologies of the three-dimensional press which are used today. The new technology under the name Continuous Liquid Interface Production (CLIP) is inspired by the fantastic film «Terminator 2» in which the T-1000 robot was created from liquid metal. The developer of CLIP is the Carbon3D firm from the Silicon valley.
Today 3D-printers widely use technology of stereolithograph (SLA) which assumes impact by the laser on photosensitive pitch with the slow level-by-level press of object. The press takes with the CLIP method only 6,5 minutes in comparison with usual methods, such as Polyjet, SLA and Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) which take away from 3 to 11,5 hours.
Present technologies of the 3D-press could not revolutionize production. Our CLIP technology offers unprecedented speed, stable mechanical properties and a choice of the materials necessary for production of difficult industrial details, – head and the founder of Carbon3D Joseph Desimon declared.
Research during which the new method was open, was published in the Science magazine and presented at the TED 2015 conference in Vancouver (Canada) on March 16.
Essence in that the transparent and nontight window which like a lens passes light and oxygen in capacity with rubber is created. Oxygen does not allow separate sites of rubber to harden, and an ultraviolet, on the contrary, is used as a hardener. The machine gun supervises oxygen and light dispensing.
It is reported that CLIP has so high precision that by means of oxygen it is possible to create «dead zones», protected from hardening, thickness of all the tenth shares of micron. It allows to create improbably difficult details.
Authors declare that developed technology more than two years. The startup collected 40 million dollars thanks to monetary injections of Sequoia Capital – one of the oldest and most successful venture funds in the world which has experience with such companies, as Apple and Google.
The 3D-press opens earlier unprecedented possibilities. So, to the American military man already suggested to print soldiers on the printer.
